MY ARTIST STATEMENT

Energetic sculptural paintings, instillations, and wearables continue to be a primary focus of my experience as a Mexican American. Spanish, my native tongue, has been diluted as I have grown. As English took over my Mexican-American household, the path to my cultural identity became blurry. With words coming and going from my memory, I sometimes connect with people, but other times, my words do not express the emotions I want to show. I explore my relationship with Mexico and my connection to the country through cultural clothing, family rituals, and the culture my father passed down, like luchador masks. Through my art, I connect to my family and create a space to identify with my Mexican culture and take pride in it.
