WEARABLES

WEARABLES

“El Regreso”

“Quince”

4 x 3 x 8 ft

A wearable gown about my relationship with my immediate family. It discusses the sense of safety I have with my parents and the act of passing down culture and habits.

“Acobijada”

6 x 4 x 6 ft

'“Acobijada' combines 'La Macuquina' with a longer wearable that comes out of a painting of my parents and me eating dinner. The dinner table is one of the only places where we all get together. I have these long yellow arms that when worn, I ask my parents to wrap around my neck and face. Acobijada means to be sheltered or in other words embraced. I discuss the safety I feel in my relationship with my parents. The shelter they provide me and the knowing I will always have them behind me pushing me along the way.

“La Macuquina”

3 x 3  ½  ft

La Macuquina is a family nickname given to me by my grandfather. This piece is more about my attempt to connect to my Mexican identity through art. I use a soda tab symbol because of my Mexican grandmother who used to collect hundreds to make purses. I turned it all into a poncho for me to wear.
